With over 18 years of experience in curating and executing initiatives for the betterment of urban spaces in India, Sarita has a keen interest in the constantly evolving architecture of content, design and communication, She is deeply invested in the way they interconnect to feed products and brands towards a fulfilling consumer experience journey. She has also held senior editorial positions in all the major media houses in India (Business India and Jasubhai Media) and continues to consult with leading brands, NGOs, infrastructure and design companies on initiatives in Experiential Marketing, Advertising & Design with specific focus on initiatives in urban India.
SOME KEY INITIATIVES
Among the many initiatives she has initiated, curated or has been a part of, here are a few that stand out for the impact they have had in the area of urban design and improvement:
- FAB Biennale, a FYI IP, the world’s first biennale on Disruption in Design and India’s first biennale on the Future of Building & Architecture.
- ‘India Urban Space’, an exhibition of ideas for ‘India Forward’ by 21 states of the country where each state showcased its plans for the city. The event was inaugurated by the Minister of Urban Development.
- 361° Conference’, Asia’s largest dialogue on urban design with over 2000 delegates from all over the world. The conference explored themes focusing on the informal city and its impact on urban life.
- The ‘AEC World Expo’, a design expo that had international firms like Zaha Hadid Architects, RMJM and Norman Foster take part and showcase their work. Over 40,000 visitors visited this forum.
- The Urban Arts and Design section of ‘Kala Ghoda Arts Festival’, Asia’s largest annual Arts and Culture Festival, which sees over 7,00,000 people over its 10-day duration.
- The Urban Architecture and Films section of the cultural festival, ‘Celebrate Bandra’
- ‘Street Smart’, a design competition in collaboration with NGO Janaagraha that explores solutions to improve India’s city streets.
- An annual conference focusing on ‘Design as Social Capital’ attended by senior government and construction professionals, along with the Harvard School of Design (South Asia Initiative)
- ‘Rebuilding Dreams’, an online repository of information (building construction research, drawings and technology, professional databases and helplines) on disaster proof construction for South East Asia commissioned by a leading steel company.
- ‘Building for a Billion’, an international design competition on housing for every Indian, which saw over 4,000 registrations from national and internationals architects.
- ‘Village 2047’, a national design competition for transforming rural India, which saw over 1,400 registrations from across the country.
- ‘Confluence’, India’s most futuristic conference on architecture, planning and urban/rural development. ‘Confluence 2018’ focused on ‘Cities on the Horizon’, while ‘Confluence 2019’ explored ‘Thinking Cities’.
Saijan, the co-founder of “For Young India”, has 25+ years of experience in sales, marketing and trading across insurance, advertising and commercial spaces. Having helmed key positions he has dealt with multinational clients developing a thorough world- view.
