When Birla Opus entered the paints market, it faced a familiar challenge: how does a new brand, backed by one of India’s most established business houses, build relevance with a professional community that already has deep relationships with incumbent paint companies?
For FYI Group, the opportunity was not simply to introduce another paint brand. It was to help Birla Opus establish a relationship with architects and interior designers at the point where colour, material and specification decisions begin.
Meaningful Engagement.
The strategy was therefore to build a series of meaningful points of engagement rather than rely on conventional product communication.
Tools for Conversation.
FYI Group developed specialised, customised sales collateral for different professional audiences, translating the breadth of the Birla Opus offering into tools that could support actual conversations between the brand and the design community. The work moved beyond product catalogues towards knowledge, application and inspiration, giving the sales team material with which to engage professionals in a more informed and relevant manner.

Building the Relationship.
This was complemented by forums, conversations and professional engagement platforms, creating repeated opportunities for architects and interior designers to encounter the brand, exchange ideas and understand its point of view.
The relationship was deliberately designed as an ecosystem: collateral created the conversation; forums deepened it; knowledge established credibility; and repeated touchpoints built familiarity and trust.

From Legacy to Influence.
The larger strategic shift was from being a new entrant seeking attention to becoming a brand with a reason to be part of the professional community’s working life.
For Birla Opus, FYI Group’s role was therefore not simply to create communication, but to help build the relationship architecture through which a new paint company could move from legacy-backed entrant to a relevant participant in the architect and interior-design ecosystem.
