From Brand Presence to Intellectual Leadership.

The challenge facing UltraTech was not one of awareness. As one of India’s largest building-materials companies, it already occupied a significant position within the construction ecosystem. The more difficult question was how the company could establish intellectual relevance among the architects and engineers who shape the built environment.

FYI Group conceived IndiaNext as the strategic response and was responsible for its end-to-end conception and execution: from thematic development and participation strategy to jury management, design, communications and programme delivery.

The proposition was to create a platform in which UltraTech could contribute to the profession through ideas rather than products. IndiaNext was conceived as a national architecture and engineering awards programme, but its ambition was deliberately broader: to create a sustained forum for examining the forces reshaping practice in India.

The programme was built around a simple principle: recognition should follow inquiry.

Each edition established a distinct thematic framework through which architects and engineers were invited to respond to contemporary questions confronting the built environment. Over a decade, six themes generated more than 50,000 registrations and resulted in more than 200 winners.

Professional credibility was fundamental to the model. FYI Group developed and managed the jury architecture, bringing together national and international practitioners and disciplinary experts to evaluate the work. Jury selection, engagement and management were treated as part of the intellectual proposition rather than as an administrative function.

Participation was similarly designed as a strategic system. FYI Group developed the routes through which each theme could reach the professional community, translating the intellectual proposition into briefs, outreach and engagement.

The initiative was then extended beyond the awards. Its themes became the basis for webinars, exhibitions and wider conversations, generating more than 100,000 registrations over the years. This created continuity between editions and allowed the programme to function as a platform for knowledge exchange rather than a single annual event.

The strategic consequence was a change in the nature of UltraTech’s engagement with the professional community.

Instead of communicating primarily to architects and engineers, the company created a platform through which it could participate with them. Instead of positioning the brand around its products, IndiaNext positioned it around ideas, excellence and the future of the built environment.

For the profession, the platform created a mechanism for recognition and exchange. For UltraTech, it established sustained presence within architectural and engineering discourse. For FYI Group, it demonstrated how strategy, intellectual property, curation, participation, jury management, design and execution can collectively construct institutional relevance.

The achievement of IndiaNext was therefore not simply that it became a coveted award. It was that, over time, it created a credible reason for UltraTech to be present in the intellectual life of the profession.

Thought leadership, in this case, was not claimed. It was constructed.

Testimonials.

FYI Group gave IndiaNext a clear purpose and the rigour to sustain it. The platform brings emerging talent, professional judgement and consequential ideas together, creating a deeper relationship between UltraTech and the built environment.
